Addressing, Greeting and Related Gestures in the Opening Sequences of Finnish, French and Hungarian YouTube Videos

Abstract This paper compares the opening sequences of Finnish, French and Hungarian YouTube videos. We concentrate on addressing, greeting related gestures, important elements when YouTubers interact with their imagined viewers, using data consisting 138 videos in three languages. study falls within field pragmatics social media interpersonal pragmatics, were analysed multimodal discourse analysis. Shared practices included frequent use greetings, a preference for general nominal address forms as well iconic deictic gestures. Cross-cultural differences revealed that Finnish closer to each other than French. may be connected genre videos, whereas appear cross-cultural generally.
